Open House a Success!
TB Vets Open House Friday, March 9

“Your place was amazing,” was the general consensus from the students who attended this year’s TB Vets Charitable Foundations’ “Catch Your Breath” Open House on March 9th. Four Lower Mainland elementary schools attended along with members of the public and donors.

elementary school class posing for the cameraDuring the Open House, students learned what it is like to have a respiratory disease.  They heard from a TB researcher and two Respiratory Therapists. TB Vets volunteers led the students in an activity that allowed them to feel what it is like to not be able to breath.  Also on the agenda was learning how keytags are made and how all donations help British Columbians breath easier.

TB Vets staff were wonderfully surprised when one of the classes donated $60 that they had raised on their own.  Thank you to Ms. Dodd’s fourth grade class!

For fun: Like the students, if you would like to find out what it is like to have a breathing disease, try the following:

  • Run around for 5 minutes (do jumping jacks, run in a circle, twirl around)
  • After 5 minutes, grab a drinking straw
  • Breath only through the straw, inhaling and exhaling
